Nestlé is teaming up with Orkney shop owner, Dan ap Dafydd, to help raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Dan has already raised more than £3,000 by raffling 100 Nestlé Easter eggs following an unfortunate mis-fire when it came to ordering the eggs for his shop.

Now Nestlé UK & Ireland has agreed to match donations to Dan’s Easter raffle up to £10,000 with the aim of helping the fundraising effort reach £20,000 by Easter Sunday.

Dan made headlines around the world when he accidentally ordered 80 cases of Nestlé Easter eggs instead of just 80 single eggs for his business Sinclair General Stores.

This meant that the remote Scottish island of Sanday, with a population of around 500 people, found itself with a stock of 720 chocolate eggs. Rather than letting this mishap go to waste, Dan decided to turn it into an opportunity to support a very worthy cause.

After the story went viral, Dan decided to hold the raffle of 100 Smarties and KitKat Easter eggs, with all proceeds going to the local RNLI branch. Recognising the vital role the RNLI plays in incidents around the island, Dan saw this as a chance to give back to the local community and the organisation that so often comes to the rescue.

Beth Lucas, Marketing Director for Confectionery at Nestlé UK & Ireland, said: "When we saw Dan’s predicament we couldn’t resist getting involved. We are thrilled to join forces with Dan and support this fantastic initiative. It's incredible to see how a simple mistake can turn into an opportunity to make a positive impact.

“Together, we aim to raise up to £20,000 for the RNLI and contribute to the invaluable work they do."

Dan ap Dafydd, added: “What started off as a silly mistake on my behalf has brought so much fun, laughter and joy and for this I am so happy.

“With the help of Nestlé UK and Ireland we have managed to raise loads of money for the RNLI and with a huge push and help from the public hopefully we can reach our new target of £20,000.

“Thank you everyone for all your support do far.”

The raffle presents a chance for one lucky winner to take home 100 of these delightful Smarties and KitKat Easter eggs, while also contributing to a worthy cause. The funds raised will directly benefit the RNLI.
